The New Alfa 147 on the Gold Coast
"At pickup at Brisbane Alfa Romeo it was a jump in the car and a quick reminder of all the recent Alfas we have driven - the 147 shares the same feel as the 156 and the GT - only the 166 and the Spider feel like different cars on the inside."
The 147 model was originally launched at the 2000 Turin motor show and was the first new model to sport the new, larger Alfa grille that has now been adopted on the full current range. It was a popular car in Europe and quickly won a number of awards, including European Car of the Year in 2001. This new model is the first upgrade the 147 has had and brings it into line with the upgraded 156 and 166 models. compare
How does it compare to the old one? The short answer is – we don’t really know! We’ve driven the old style 147 in GTA form (there is a new style GTA planned but as yet no details as to when it will appear) but otherwise we’ve only seen the old 147 being driven. In 2003 when we drove the 147 GTA at the press drive day the Alfa pilot cars were regular 147 Twin Sparks – and they didn’t seem to have any problems keeping up with the pack.
